Social Responsibility

Our Mission

Our commitment to social and environmental responsibility provides a higher sense of purpose, radiating to our suppliers, our employees, and the community we serve. For us at The Short Spine, this isn’t a fad or a nice-to-have — it is in our company’s DNA and a must-have.

As we continue to grow, we have an increasing responsibility to commit additional resources toward our values in order to maximize the positive impact of our products. At The Short Spine, we have long held the conviction that we can be both a great business and a great corporate citizen. In fact, we believe we cannot be one without the other.

Our Current Initiatives

In the U.S. alone, eCommerce packages travel about the same distance as going to the moon and back ...133,000 times. It is not just getting your order to your doorstep we have to worry about - our entire supply chain carries a hefty carbon footprint. Scouring the globe for eco-friendly materials and transforming them into The Short Spine products you know and love means tons (literally) of planet-warming carbon pollution.

Make an Order Carbon Neutral

From the company’s inception, we have been committed to slowing the effects of climate change, one order at a time. Carbon offsets are a starting point—an immediate way to reduce our carbon emissions. Thus, we have partnered with EcoCart to empower our community to make their orders 100% carbon neutral.

For every shipment, you can offset the specific carbon footprint. This means that for any carbon emissions released into our atmosphere as a result of manufacturing and shipping items, we invest in projects that reduce carbon emissions by the same amount.

Each time you select the carbon-neutral box at checkout, we will automatically purchase verified emissions reductions, more commonly known as “offsets” through our friends at EcoCart. These purchases support environmental projects, specifically the Tri-City Forest Project in Massachusetts, USA. This project protects 6,500 acres of public forestland that captures over 100,000 metric tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide every year. With sustainable forest management, this ideal forest ecosystem offers the least expensive natural filter for the drinking water that serves three cities, namely Holyoke, West Springfield, and Westfield.

Recycle Product Packaging

In the retail industry, eliminating packaging waste altogether is a challenge, and we’re taking steps to reduce, reuse, or recycle where possible. Most of our apparel products are shipped in polybags, which offer maximum protection and in turn reduces waste from damaged clothing, from our manufacturers, distribution center, and to your doorstep. Considering that polybags are hard to recycle in many jurisdictions, we encourage you to recycle them. For instance, the zippered polybags you receive for tops and bottoms are great for safekeeping small items at home to protect from dust or organizing your necessities when traveling.

Our Investment in a Better Future

To amplify the positive impact on our planet, we are continuously exploring ways in our supply chain that will reduce our emissions and wastes, and improve recyclability. At The Short Spine, we believe that if we all work together towards positive change, we can make the world a cleaner, healthier place.
